Emily Thomson – Malleable Nature

A RDC Fine Arts alumnus, Emily held her first gallery at Cafe Pichilingue in 2013 and has since spread her paint for both public consumption and private commission. Emily strives to live in a vibrant cultural community that celebrates itself without restraint. Watch her paint at an Art Battle or lose herself in dance at a concert; it’s evident she loves doing her part to build that community.
Her art — mixtures of abstract, landscape, paint, wax and epoxy — is created from experiences that have been stamped upon her mind. Mindful viewing reveals layers of depth and texture that retain the eye. Vibrant colours communicate the fringes of emotion where words would only fail. These are expressions of the chaos, peace, joy and heartache that can be felt in momentary awareness.

Emily’s gallery, Release, opens Friday, June 1st at A+ Art Gallery & Unique Collections. This series of paintings is dedicated to her late nephew, who passed away last year. Many of the works will be part of a silent auction supporting the Ronald McDonald House Charities Central Alberta. Emily is an Arts and Culture nominee in the 2018 Women of Excellence Awards, Wednesday, June 6th at the Sheraton. She will also compete live in the Art Battle Alberta Finals – June 16, 2018 at the Casino Yellowhead in Edmonton.
