My dearest community,

It goes without saying, this invisible enemy has impacted the lives of everyone on the planet. Among many social liberties, the arts and culture sector takes a significant blow. Every live music event has been cancelled or postponed. Every art gallery is closed. The simplest gathering of a group of people is discouraged in order to encourage the health and safety of as many people as possible. For the first time in 17 years, the Red Deer Scene has no events to promote for the coming month due to the worldwide spread of COVID-19.

For so many of us, creative expression through art, theatre or live music is the thing that fills our cup with joy. It’s devastating to be on the same boat with all of humanity to see these experiences vanish so suddenly. This month, instead of producing a full printed run, we decided to post the April Scene online. We wanted to focus on bringing awareness to the businesses that have been adapting and working tirelessly during this rapidly evolving situation.

I know our community is supportive, vibrant and diverse. There is a future where we can gather and fulfill the emptiness we all share. Until then, love one another and practice social distancing so we can all return to our lives as soon as it is safe to do so.
